LUM CHEE KIN
Executive Producer / Film Director
Chee Kin started his career as a studio cameraman at the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation since 1980. In 1986, he was sent by the station to Australia to be trained in single 16mm film camera operation. There he produces documentaries and TV commercials at the famous Australian Film and Television School.
Spurred by his passion in television and film making, he left for the United States to pursue a degree in Mass Communication. During his stint in the US, Chee Kin won two awards from the Academy Television Arts and Science for two documentaries he wrote, shot and directed. In 1992, he graduated with a Masters Of Arts degree in Communication from the University of Southern Illinois at Carbondale.
Back in Singapore, Chee Kin joined Caldecott Productions as a Producer/Director, producing mainly TV commercials, TV programmes and documentaries. After that, he joined Ogilvy and Mather Advertising as the Head of TV Department for 4 years, overseeing the Asia Pacific region’s TV commercial productions and garnering awards for clients such as the Bank of China, Nippon Paint and Guinness Stout.
Since 1998, Chee Kin ventured out and together with another partner started The Reel Thing Pte Ltd. At the Reel Thing he continues to produce and direct TV commercials and documentaries for clients such Subway, Burger King, CNN, BBC, Loreal, Gardens by the Bay and Far East Organization.
Course Objectives
Designed to introduce participants the basics of video productions; concepts, scripting, planning, camera works, lightings, editing and deliveries. Through practical applications and hands on experience of handling of simple video equipment. Learn the art of making motion pictures to tell a compelling story through technology in video production.

- – Art of making motion pictures. The art of story telling through videos. Plan your story. Every video must tell a story. Introduction to the use of equipment like cameras, smartphones and accessories (tripod, mic & selfie stick). Cameras are light sensitive equipment. To better understand and the use of the tools for the trade. Learn to compose picture. Framing, level, Rules of Thirds. Good clips
- – good composition and interesting pictures always capture our attention. Learn Lighting, exposure, use of natural and artificial lights Pre-production briefing. Project requirements includes story boarding. Shoot with edit in mind. Technique of script writing. Writing of storyboard for assigned project as a group or individual Importance of reviewing videos footages on-site. Practise shooting of video assignment in class or around building plus review. Learn to injest videos and photos and music into software Demo various interface of video editing software like trim, layering, titling, noise reduction, visual effects, transitions, sequencing, color manipulation and voice over. Shot listing videos and photos and music for project Hands on practise to use video editing software. Editing is putting all the pieces to tell a great story Learn rendering of video project Publishing of video project online Presentation of video project and comments by participants
